Bud Matthews is a long time “Trailer” dealer, long before “Trailers” evolved into
Mobilehomes, Motorhomes, Travel Trailers, Tent Trailers and Toy Haulers.
He started his professional journey in early 1954 at the urging of his uncle, Ernie Ruiz
who owned Travelon Trailer Sales. At that time, Travelon was one of the largest
and most successful multiple dealerships in all of California with 10 locations.

Bud took a liking to the Fresno branch at 2996 E. Ventura Ave.
in the early 60’s. Later he became one of the youngest general
managers to run a multiple lot operation. So, he and his wife,
Grace took the dealership over in 1965 at a time when the
dealership sold Mobilehomes, Travel Trailers and Motorhomes.
When the first energy disaster struck in 1971, MatthewsRV was
the only survivor out of 11 dealerships in Fresno, while at the same
time opening up 3 new lots: One on Blackstone Avenue, one in
Visalia and the other in Lodi. In 1976, Bud decided to close the
other lots and consolidate to one location in Fresno to spend more
time with the family. Once again, when the second energy crunch
hit in 1980, it left us and 1 other dealer as sole survivors out of
11 local dealerships.
